# Set up Bolt on Solidus

> Install the Bolt SSO Commerce plugin on a Solidus (Ruby on Rails) store.

Source: https://help.boltapp.com/platforms/solidus

Add Bolt to a Solidus store to connect existing storefront accounts with Bolt for a one-click, passwordless login flow. This integration uses Bolt [SSO Commerce](/products/add-ons/sso-commerce).

<Note>
  Solidus SSO Commerce is in limited release and available to a select number of Bolt merchants. Confirm availability with Bolt before you start.
</Note>

**Platform support**

This guide is for Solidus. Other platforms and custom web apps have their own quickstarts.

## Prerequisites [#prerequisites]

* Bolt merchant account
* A Solidus store
* Command line and Ruby familiarity

## Install the plugin [#install-the-plugin]

1. Add the required gems to your `Gemfile`:

```ruby title="Ruby"
gem 'multi_json', '~> 1.11', '>= 1.11.2'
gem 'solidus_auth_devise'
```

2. Set your environment in your local `ENV` file (`sandbox` for testing, `production` for a live store), then run `bundle install`:

```bash title="Terminal"
export BOLT_ENVIRONMENT=sandbox
```

3. Add and install the Bolt gem:

```bash title="Terminal"
bundle add solidus_bolt
bin/rails generate solidus_bolt:install
```

**Expected result:** a **Bolt** section appears in your Solidus store dashboard.

## Create your Bolt account [#create-your-bolt-account]

1. In the Solidus dashboard, open the **Bolt** section.
2. Create a **Production** or **Sandbox** merchant account and fill in your store information.
3. Enter the one-time code Bolt emails you to verify the account.

## Connect a payment method and webhooks [#connect-a-payment-method-and-webhooks]

1. In the **Bolt** section, link your payment processor and copy each credential into **Solidus Dashboard > Bolt > Edit**.
2. Under **Settings > Payments**, add a **New Payment Method** of type **Bolt**. Name it **Bolt Payments**, leave **Auto Capture** on **Use App Default (No)**, and check **Available to Users**, **Available to Admin** and **Active**.
3. Once the method exists, set its **Preference Source** to `bolt_config_credentials` and click **Update**.
4. In the **Bolt** section, select **Configure Webhooks** and enter `https://[store_url]/webhooks/bolt`, the endpoint the gem provides.

**Expected result:** Bolt is available as a payment method and receives webhook updates.

## Production checklist [#production-checklist]

* Set `BOLT_ENVIRONMENT=production`
* Switch to production API keys and dashboard
* Live processor credentials linked in the Bolt section

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

* **Bolt** section missing: confirm `bin/rails generate solidus_bolt:install` completed without errors.
* Payments not processing: verify **Preference Source** is set to `bolt_config_credentials`.
