# Test cards

> Card numbers to simulate sandbox payment scenarios with Bolt Payments and other processors.

Source: https://help.boltapp.com/getting-started/test-cards

Use these card numbers in sandbox to test payment and risk outcomes. Start with the generic cards, then use the section for your payment service provider (PSP) when you need a processor-specific result.

<Note>
  * The full card number must match for post-authorization processes.
  * Only the last 4 digits are used in pre-authorization rejections.
  * Any card that ends in `0001` is rejected in pre-authorization.
</Note>

## Generic test cards [#generic-test-cards]

Use these values unless your PSP-specific section says otherwise:

* **Expiration**: Any month/year in the future
* **CVV**: Any 3 digits
* **Type**: `Visa`

| Scenario                       | Card number           |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------- |
| Pre-auth irreversibly rejected | `4100 2003 0003 0001` |
| Approved                       | `4111 1111 1111 1111` |
| Declined                       | `4111 1111 1111 1012` |

## Expected risk results [#expected-risk-results]

| Result                             | What to expect                                                                                                                                                                |
| ---------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Pre-auth irreversibly rejected | The shopper sees an error before order confirmation. Bolt does not make an authorization call, and the order is not available for re-review or force approval. |
| Review | Bolt reviews the order before making a final decision. |
| Approved | The payment is accepted. |
| Declined | The payment processor declines the payment. |
| Reviewed and reversibly rejected | The shopper reaches order confirmation and later receives an email about the order. If rejection overrides are enabled, the merchant can request re-review or force approval. |

## Verify a test [#verify-a-test]

1. Complete checkout in sandbox with the card for the result you need.
2. Open **Transactions** in the [sandbox Merchant Dashboard](https://merchant-sandbox.boltapp.com).
3. Find the test transaction and compare its status with [Expected risk results](#expected-risk-results).

**Expected result:** The transaction reaches the documented sandbox status for the card and PSP you used.

## Additional testing resources by PSP [#additional-testing-resources-by-psp]

Most PSPs offer their own test cards. Bolt cannot guarantee the effectiveness of third-party test cards. We recommend that you use [our generic test cards](#generic-test-cards).
